Registration for
20-21 is here! I'm excited to work with you on any questions you might
have when scheduling for your junior year.
Ms. Greer has
sent a Registration Guide Presentation highlighting the registration process
for the upcoming school year to your school email address. It will
contain a link to the Course Guide - your tool to complete this process. I
hope you have seen those resources if not here are the links:

Your advisor will
contact you via phone Wednesday - Friday to ask you which courses you'd like to
take for the upcoming school year. It will be VERY important that you have
reviewed the information in the Registration Guide Presentation and the Course
Guide so that you will be ready when your advisor calls.
Rising juniors
will choose an English, a Math, a Science, and a Social Studies course, 4
electives, and 6 alternates.
Rising juniors need to reference the Four Year Plan to ensure they
have met and have a plan to meet graduation requirements. The Four Year Plan is
available in Ms. Greer's presentation and also in the Course Guide. Your transcript is available through your IC student
portal under reports should you want to reference it when looking at the Four
Year Plan.
Rising juniors have the opportunity to take dual credit courses
through several partners. Some of these courses are taught on campus with our
faculty, online through MSU or WKCTC, or on campus through University of
Kentucky, UK Next Generation Scholars, with a UK teacher and a MCHS
teacher. Information about dual credit opportunities can be found in the
Special Programs section of the Course Guide. The Course Guide also has a
Dual Credit Quick Reference Guide on page 79 that is very informative.
General differences in AP and Dual Credit to start your research:
- AP - students can earn college credit IF the student chooses to
take the AP exam at the end of the course and make a passing score.
Students pay for that exam, this year it was $94. The college the
student later attends determines how the score
transfers. Every college has their own AP transfer policy.
- Dual credit - taught on campus by one of our teachers
(through WKCTC or UK), or online (through MSU or WKCTC). Students will
earn college credit on a college transcript if the student passes the
course. Currently
dual credit students are charged $58 per credit hour plus any books or
fees associated with the course. Students can apply for the dual
credit scholarship and get two courses paid for during their time in high
school.
Making choices for your
junior year may seem overwhelming but try not to stress - I’m here to help you
throughout this entire process. Don’t hesitate to ask questions along the
way.
